A brand new HVAC system!

Congratulations to Charlene and Cory at Floors First in Vulcan Alberta on their purchase of a brand new Ducane furnace and air conditioning unit.
Charlene and Cory had contacted me in 2022 to discuss adding a new air conditioning system to their store and showroom.
The store was getting uncomfortably hot during the summer, making it unpleasant to work in during the heat of the day. The interior temperature was often 26 or 27 degrees Celsius by mid afternoon inside the showroom. This was not comfortable at all for the staff or the customers.
Upgrading the HVAC
Although Cory and Charlene initially wanted a quotation just for air conditioning for the store, we determined that the furnace would have to be upgraded before we could add in air conditioning. The reason for this was because the (very old) existing furnace did not have the capability to operate a new air conditioning system. Modern efficient air conditioning equipment needs control signals from modern and efficient furnaces and thermostats. You cannot retrofit a modern AC unit onto an outdated furnace – it just won’t work.
Highly Efficient Heating
The old natural draft Lennox furnace was way past its prime. We estimated that the existing furnace was at best 65% efficient, meaning that for every dollar spent on natural gas the customer was only getting 0.65 cents worth of heat. The remaining 0.35 cents was going straight up the chimney. And this was the best case scenario!
Fire and Frost installed a brand new 96% efficient two stage Ducane furnace. Not only is this furnace capable of controlling the new AC unit, but it is massively more efficient at heating the store than the previous unit. We estimate that Floors First will save 30% on their monthly gas bill to heat the store in the winter.
Cool comfortable AC

When Fire & Frost completed the installation and turned on the AC for the first time, we noted that the showroom temperature was 26 degrees Celsius. Within 1 hour of turning the unit on, we observed that the showroom temperature had dropped to 21 degrees Celsius.
In addition to lowering the air temperature, an air conditioning system also dehumidifies the air. This helps to remove that muggy stale feeling from the air. We noted that the relative humidity had dropped 14% in the initial run of the air conditioner.
The air conditioner is more than able to keep the showroom cool and comfortable in the summer.
Conclusion
Fire & Frost Heating & Air was lucky to be able to take on this project. Cory and Charlene are now able to discuss flooring options with their customers in cool comfort or warm comfort regardless of the weather conditions outside.
As an added bonus, the decrease in their gas bills in the winter will help to provide a return on investment over time.
Thank you Cory and Charlene of Floors First for supporting our business!
